Samenvatting

In the framework of another study a forecast is made of the traffic flows in the region of Amsterdam for the year 2000 with the aid of a generalised cost model. Firstly the starting point was a physical planning by which a relative big number of working places in the agglomeration of Amsterdam is supposed. While in the neighbouring cities a strong population growth is accepted, big traffic flows arise between the agglomeration of Amsterdam and the neighbouring cities of commuting traffic. To study the influence of the spatial dispersion of the population and the working places on the expected traffic flows a second alternative is calculated. In this alternative the working places are located in the vicinity of the population; then the number of working places is considered much more at the cost of the employment in the city of Amsterdam. This second alternative must be seen as a mathematical example to study the influence of the spatial structure on traffic flows and not as a real prognosis on the development of the Amsterdam region. In this report the forecasted traffic flows in both alternatives are compared.
