Samenvatting
The results are presented of a country study into the effects of the introduction of larger containers under the circumstances in The Netherlands. The different transportation modes and their linkages (the terminals) are taken into consideration. The aspects that are looked at are: economics of transport, quality and capacity of the infrastructure, effects on modal split and environment, and safety. An approach has been chosen which starts from actual physical logistic chains and focuses on two main questions: (1) the (potential) market for larger containers; and (2) the (potential) effects of larger containers on the different elements of logistic chains.
