Samenvatting

ACEM, FEMA and FIM agree that initial rider training arrangementsv in Europe often fail to meet the needs of the rider. One objective of the IRT Project is to evaluate the contribution that e-Learning, herein after referred to as e-Coaching, could make in developing hazard perception and avoidance and correct attitude and behaviour in initial rider training. This objective would be met through an affordable structured programme, created by competent instructors that would expose trainees in a no risk context to hazards which they are likely to meet in traffic. An accessible e-Coaching programme, available at no or little cost, which can be run on readily available personal computers or video game consoles, would be an unrivaled solution when trying to reach the two million initial riders throughout the European Union. Since the motorcycle accidents have such high social and personal costs, reducing the incidence of these accidents would be worth the money and effort invested. The goal of this document is to give a technical evaluation of the feasibility of such an approach and to make recommendations on how to develop and implement such e-Coaching software and provide an initial estimate of the costs of development and implementation. This document is written to address the questions raised by e-Coaching as a project. The document considers the technical aspects of the e-Coaching approach, such as the required features of the system and the most suitable implementation technologies for these features.
