Some field trials and questionnaires show a very high level of acceptance of the concept of intelligent speed adaptation (ISA). The acceptance of ISA systems is always higher after having driven an ISA equipped vehicle. There are also persons willing to pay up to 5000 sek for a speed checker tested in Umea, Sweden. Field trials with speed control equipment show an extremely low driver resistance after having participated. With a system where the driver himself can choose whether to have the speed control function or the speed information function activated, all results point to a use of both functions. This is of course dependent on function, traffic environment and driver category. The speed control function would probably primarily be used in low speed areas and where the risk of being caught speeding is high. On highways and on rural roads adaptive cruise control (ACC) with an assisting function has a great potential.
