Samenvatting

In Europe, USA and Japan considerable resources are being devoted to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) underlining the great importance attached to it. In order to protect the investments already made in telematics systems and to build confidence in future deployments there is a need for an architecture to ensure interoperability and interconnectivity of ITS. The architecture framework will provide the basis for a number of possible system designs. A possible migration path towards interoperability and interconnectivity is described taking into consideration the systems already in place. Four phases have been identified in evolving from the present situation to an environment of agreed open systems architecture. (A)
