The Moonrakers junction is a crossroads in the north part of Swindon where 5 different forms of traffic control have operated during the last 20 years. (a) staggered cross roads, (b) straight cross roads, (c) straight cross road traffic signals, (d) double mini roundabouts with centre island cobras, (e) double mini roundabouts with centre island humps. this paper analyses the detailed accident records (injury and damage only) at the 5 different types of control against a background of increasing traffic flows. County islands ring junction is known locally as the magic roundabout. The department of transport do not recommend ring junctions as a form of junction control. This ring junction was installed in 1972, and is one of only two in existence. This paper analyses the traffic capacities compared with small roundabouts and large roundabouts at the same site and compares accident records.
