The Instructions for Design of Motorways (Richtlijnen Ontwerpen Autosnelwegen, ROA) state that a clothoid must fulfill the dynamic condition of equilibrium: nowhere the admissible lateral friction is to be exceeded. Although Chapter II 3.4.3-10 show clothoids that do not fulfill that condition, paragraph 3.2 of the same chapter shows a relation that makes them acceptable. Other critical limits are highlighted.
