For a long time, walking and cycling as a kind of recreation have a strong interest in the national politics. By different points of planning it is tried to attune the demand and what there is on offer in such a way that the bottlenecks can be avoided. The aim of this study was to develop a method to analyze these bottlenecks in walking and cycling in rural areas. In this literature review the recreative use of the rural area for recreational walking and cycling on a regional level is described. The review results in a conceptual model which will be the base for new empirical research.
