Bone scintigrams of lower leg fractures present typical changes dependent of the time after injury. Delayed union may be recognized earlier than by standard X-ray examination. Also a healed fracture as shown by X-ray may be revealed not to be so on scintigraphy. These findings have considerable significance in relation to removal of nails and plates.
