This report is a summary of two speeches made on 27th October 1967, on the occasion of a contact-day of the Society for Bituminous Works. The first speaker makers a few remarks on the development of road planning, especially during the last ten years. In this planning the interest of road safety gradually play a more prominent part. The central situation of the province of Utrecht in the country, its important recreational function, together with the steadily increasing population, present many difficulties, some of which are discussed. The second speaker outlines the network of State Highways in this province. The problems which arise in connection with the improvement and modernizing both in a traffic engineering and a constructional aspect, of motorways, by-passes, interchanges, etc. are elucidated and a few examples are given.
