Samenvatting

Technical failures of automobile subsystems cause a relative small number of accidents. Therefore, significant improvements of active safety, that is significant reduction of the number of accidents, is only possible if the entire system comprising the driver, vehicle, traffic- and road surface conditions is considered. Parts 3-6 of this paper deal with the adaptation of automobiles to driver characteristics. In part 4 results of drivers subjective judgement are summarized. Subjective evaluation figures have been shown to be correlated with some characteristic values of the vehicle which are known from the circular driving test and the transient response. Part 5 deals with identification problems of driver parameters in the closed loop case. Stability of the closed loop system and resulting fields of driver parameters are analysed in Part 6, Parameters of the stable system are then compared with values which have been measured by the Institut für Fahrzeugtechnik, Technische Universität Braunschweig, and other investigators. In the final Part 7 of this paper, on other concept for safety improvement using redundant systems parallel to the driver is considered.
