Samenvatting

Are there vulnerable groups in traffic and transport in The Netherlands? In other words: are there groups of people who cannot provide in their need for mobility? Which causes has this so-called `poverty of mobility'? The Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management has commissioned Transport Research Centre (AVV) to research three possible vulnerable groups: the disabled, the elderly and low-income people. The conclusion is that there is no `poverty of mobility' in the Netherlands, at least not on the level of special groups. All three groups have the same number of trips per day, although the number of trips decline when one gets older. There is a difference in the number of kilometres one travels per day. Low-income people travel fewer kilometres per day, and they make less use of the car. (A)
