Recommendations have been developed concerning the rational length of a stretch of road between a left-hand and right-hand bend, the value of the parameters of single-level roundabout elements, the effectiveness and optimum dimensions of the "joggle bars" serving to slow down the speed of vehicles approaching dangerous stretches of the road. Two following factors are of special interest: (1) the kind of safety barriers which partially determine driver's chosen speeds, and (2) speed limits imposed by road signs are corrected by road users who drive at higher speeds.
