Samenvatting

Definitions of heavy congestion of motorways in England and Japan were analysed for providing useful traffic information through a psychological analysis of drivers' congestion consciousness. In a previous paper, heavy congestion on several motorway areas in Japan have been defined by using both average speed and its duration time on the basis of drivers' consciousness. Further investigations for defining heavy congestion in England were carried out. The comparison clearly shows the difference of drivers' heavy congestion consciousness between England and Japan. It would be very important to recognise the regional difference of drivers' heavy congestion consciousness for international argument and competition on ITS.
