A method of predicting the lateral characteristics of a rolling tyre from the detailed knowledge of its lateral flexibility in the contact area and the law of friction is discussed. A method of determining the variation in the lateral flexibility is described, using distribution of lateral force and deformation obtained with a modified apparatus.
