In 1985-86 a survey of farmers in Mali was made in order to analyse transport functioning inside farms, between fields and villages, and outside farms, for the sale of the crops and supplying villages. In the farms having no transport means, carrying by men and women forms an important task of work. Transport also has effects on the income of farmers, by the expenses it causes, especially for getting in the crops and, on the other hand, by limiting sale possibilities on the nearest markets. (A)
