The threat to public transport is omnipresent. But it is not only organised crime that forces governments and communities to think about safer public transport - it is also the 'everyday life' crime that is a challenge. In addition to bodily harm, impulsive crimes such as alcohol-related crimes, robbery and vandalism threaten passengers and cost millions of Euros every year. This article discusses events at the global fair 'Security 2008' in Essen, Germany, including: closed circuit television, software, RFID and ticketing, and security staff.
