Queensland's South East Busway, completed in 2001, represents a substantial step forward in public transport in South East Queensland and in the Bus Rapid Transit field in general. Many aspects of the project broke new ground. The conception, design, implementation, and operation of the Busway's electronic systems proved to be a particular challenge. This paper reports on selected learnings from the experience which will be of interest in future Bus Rapid Transit projects.
