The urban area of the metropolitan Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, has reached such a degree of poverty and disorganisation that classics methods are no longer useful. This paper looks at the transport sector and its lack of public power, lack of regulations and lack of traffic management that have greatly contributed to the present situation. The paper argues that the atypical situation in Port-au-Prince should motivate responsible authorities to find simple, innovative and realistic solutions to help improve the transport sector stagnation in the rapidly gowing urban area.
