Samenvatting

This book is an introduction to ergonomic and the systems of men-machines. A definition is given of the term ergonomic. In ergonomy a distinction can be made between one-man-one machine, and more men-more machines. The progress in ergonomy depends on the methods, not on the results. The methods exist of two phases: analysis of work and experimentation. The perception of signals - important in the combination one man-one machine - can be distinguished in detection, discrimination and interpretation of the signals Important is the investigation into the adaption of the response to the signals. The environmental factor which can influence the performance are studied. For the system men-machines original analytical methods are required. Simulations are used. The two principles application-possibilities of ergonomy are adaption of the machine to the man, and of the man to the machine.
