Samenvatting

The fast growing demography and the outspread of the city of Bamako (Mali) have been straining the urban transport system. The problems reside at the infrastructure level as well as at the public transport system organization's level where individual companies fiercely compete with structured transport companies. The latter somewhat fulfill a public service mission which place them at a disadvantage in a pure competition environment; the legality of the request for public aid and the enforcement of the favourable exclusivity disclosures contained in the concession contract they signed with the authorities. The urban transport policy actions underway should improve the urban transport in Bamako, mainly at the security level. In the long term, the urban public transport study in perspective bears all the hope. (A) The English title of the paper is: "Urban transport in Bamako."
