Samenvatting

This paper outlines a model licence re-assessment procedure for older drivers. The model incorporates three levels of assessment. The first stage of the assessment involves older drivers being referred from a number of community sources such as the family doctor or the police. The second stage involves off-road screening by the licensing authority. The third involves an in-depth assessment for those who fail or whose outcome is unclear. This paper describes the model licence reassessment procedure as well as an evaluation of the effectiveness of levels 1 and 2 assessment instruments at identifying at-risk older drivers.
