In the low-lying front portions of modern vehicles, the dispersion of the headlamps are coming to be more often fitted in an inclined instead of in a vertical position. The required light distribution can than no longer be obtained with the cylindrical lense elements hitherto usual. Satisfactory results can be obtained with convex and concave lenses of elliptical or parabolic cross-section. Such conical systems, which are suited for inclinations of the dispersion discs up to 50°, have already proved satifactory in fog lamps and could also be used in main headlamps because of their advantages in lighting.
