This paper focuses on the scope for improving road accident statistics and better exploiting existing data by linking the contents of various files. Ten chapters cover: 1, background and importance of objectives; 2, note on the evolution of the mortality /morbidity relationship; 3, the questionnaire; 4, linkage with public health /medico- legal files; 5, linkage with administrative files; 6, linkage with infrastructure files; 7, linkage with vehicle files; 8, various obstacles to the linking of data; 9, the need to document a number of fruitful case histories.
