Samenvatting

In order to increase the capacity of the European transport system, the European Commission has funded several projects with the intent of enabling waterborne transport to increase its market share for transport of cargo. One of these projects is IPSI, developing a new concept for the port/ship interface. The results of the IPSI project are used in the STORA ENSO Base Port project operating between Gothenburg and Zeebruegge. The IPSI results provide reduced cost, higher speed and less damage in cargo handling operations. Infolog is another EU-supported project that has developed a management system for door-to-door transport chains with waterborne transport as a key element. By integrating the results of the IPSI project with those of Infolog and the results of a third project and Interport (utilising Automatic Equipment Identification to record loading and unloading of vessels), a new form of door-to-door transport solution is established. The improved link between land- and water-borne transport may facilitate transfer of cargo transport from land to sea in the foreseeable future. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
