Dans sa première partie ce rapport décrit et analyse les données relatives a la situation française et fait la synthèse d'une analyse multifactorielle des accidents de deux roues en France. La seconde partie de ce rapport présente les principales données disponibles au niveau international: statistiques d'accidents et de parcs, revue des études et recherches menées sur le sujet dans différents pays. Un chapitre est consacré à la situation du cyclomoteur et aux études de sécurité menées aux Pays-Bas. English abstract: Mopeds are still the type of motorised two-wheeler most widely used in France, particularly by young people, despite a significant decrease in the number of these vehicles since 1970. And in the case of an accident, moped riders are, along with pedestrians and cyclists, the most vulnerable category of road user. The present report aims to present the moped users' situation. The first part deals with the analysis of safety problems facing moped riders in France: development of the fleet and accident rates, risk ratios, speeds, wearing of helmets, accident severity. The results of a multi-factor analysis and an ascending hierarchical classification of a sample of two-wheeler drivers (cyclists, moped and motorbike rider) are also presented. The second part presents the major data available internationally: accident statistics, review of studies and research carried out on this issue in various countries. This part also reports on the status of the moped and on safety studies carried out in The Netherlands. In conclusion, if the age of moped riders seems to be the major problem, followed by the statutory conditions of use of the vehicle, it can be noted that the fact that the moped and its users are not included in the traffic system has negative consequences in terms of safety.
