Samenvatting

This paper describes the assessment of the response of the Lion Intoximeter 3000 and the Lion Intoxilyzer 6000 to different concentrations of MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) in order to obtain an indication as to whether a blood MTBE concentration of 37m/l results in a vapour concentration of MTBE which is significant enough to artificially elevate breath alcohol readings. Different concentrations of aqueous NTBE were added to a Smith and Wesson Breath Simulator. The procedure was repeated using whole human blood and dry MTBE gases. The results are presented and show that no elevation in alcohol reading was obtained.
