Samenvatting

Tests have been carried out to contribute to the development of design methods for clay brick pavements. The load-spreading properties of as-laid clay brick pavements have been compared with those of conventional dense bitumen macadam pavements under different combinations of wheel load and speed, at constant pavement temperature. The results show the variation of load-spreading with thickness of paver and with wheel speed, and indicate that under the test conditions, clay brick pavements spread loads less well than dense bitumen pavements. Trafficking of one of the clay brick pavements produced no improvement in load spreading properties, and it is concluded that "lock-up" of the pavement did not take place. (A)
