Samenvatting

This paper discusses the methodology adopted by the City of Wyndham for conducting Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) studies and details criteria used by Wyndham to determine whether traffic calming treatments are required. The need for continual monitoring of LATM schemes is also discussed highlighting the importance of monitoring the effectiveness of treatments used after installation. The monitoring criteria being used at Wyndham will measure a drop in 85th percentile speed on local streets to produce an 85th percentile speed under 54 kilometres per hour, a reduced casualty crash rate on local streets to 1 per 1000 head of population and a reduction in the number of resident complaints related to speeding on local streets by 50 per cent. It is envisaged that this criteria will be met by 2007. The number one theme that comes through is the need to reduce speeding in local streets.
