Many communities around the country have adopted regulatory, administrative, and financial practices designed to promote and fund safe pedestrian facilities and activities. The objective of this study is to document various tools and strategies used by municipalities to improve the safety, convenience, and accessibility of the pedestrian experience. Information used in this study was acquired through a review of the literature and interviews with key staff in local agencies that have implemented practices designed to support pedestrian-friendly environments.
