The second report of the Asian Task Force identifies current developments in ICT and ITS applications that are impacting on logistics activities. It illustrates how ICT and ITS can increase efficiency, promote intermodalism and alleviate security concerns related to logistics systems. The report identifies national policies which can support such developments. The report also provides a vision of how ICT and ITS can contribute to improved logistics in the Asia-Pacific region in the future and help develop efficient and sustainable logistics networks that meet global and regional trading requirements. The report’s findings - which highlight the need for governments and their advisers to have an in-depth understanding of the current trends - are clearly relevant in many other countries and other regions. The policy conclusions from the work are important in the context of the contribution that logistics can make to economic development and international co-operation and deserve to be considered more widely in OECD member countries and elsewhere.
