Drinking-driving offenders, particularly multiple offenders, appear to represent a special population. Several studies suggest that these individuals are distinguished on a variety of demographic and psychosocial measures. They appear to share many characteristics with alcoholics and high-risk drivers, although the overlap is not complete. This study reports preliminary findings from a long-term follow-up investigation of individuals convicted of a second drinking-driving offence in two Ontario cities between 1972 and 1977.
