On a long-term temporal aspect of stereoscopic depth sensation.

The decay time of stereoscopic depth sensation after the occlusion of one eye is measured for well suprathreshold disparities and for binocular inspection times ranging from 5 to 30 sec. In a dark environment, devoid of any cue, the decay time may attain even 10 sec. This long-term effect is tentatively ascribed to a possible facilitator interaction between information gained through spontaneous fluctuation of accommodation and that due to binocular disparity.
