Samenvatting

Traffic- protected zones are an important element of any general traffic project. Area- wide projects produce two results: transfer of automobile traffic onto the major road network and use of means of transport other than the automobile. Depending on the extent of measures taken to create traffic- protected zones, the road network registers overall an increase in traffic volume of up to 10%. This increase can be absorbed by the implementation of additional measures aimed at public transport, pedestrian and two- wheel traffic, as well as the introduction of parking restrictions.
