Nowadays, lamp with a considerably higher luminous output are used, in order to achieve adequate luminance levels. Of these lamps, the low pressure sodium lamp is the most suitable, duo to both its shape and its high luminous efficacy. In this paper we consider the requirements for a catenary installation for very wide roads. First of all a comparison is made between "conventional" and catenary lighting.
