Samenvatting

This paper considers Birmingham's new holistic approach to solving the problems caused by traffic around schools, and the various incentives under way to promote Safer Routes to School (SRTS). With over 300 primary schools in an intensely developed urban environment Birmingham has more problems than most. By creating a partnership between school governors, parents, teachers and other interested parties Birmingham is stimulating community action to develop SRTS. By encouraging sponsorship from businesses funding potential can be improved and local interest increased.
