Samenvatting

The demands on highway authorities, their designers and contractors in managing and maintaining major highways will be enormous for the foreseeable future. The road user, the customer, and the community will rightly call for high standards and levels of service. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the society is prepared to share the best techniques and developments. Much is being done, but it is invariably the case that more can be done. Opportunities exist through organisations such as the World Road Association (WRA), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Forum for European Highway Research Laboratories (FEHRL) and the fullest advantage of these for the benefit of customers should be taken.
