Most cycling does and will continue to take place on the road network. Cyclists have a right to reasonable, responsible use of that network. All traffic planning and traffic engineering should therefore consider the needs of cyclists as one of the legitimate road user groups to be catered for. Major intersections will increasingly require specific provisions for cyclists to minimise potential conflicts and make traffic movements predictable.
