Samenvatting

The author suggests that psychological theory, in particular the theoretical basis of behaviour analysis, can link engineering, educational and enforcement approaches to safety. The mechanism of behavioural analysis is outlined. The behavioural model allows for control of behaviour and control of consequences. The model is applied to speed and its consequences. Engineering techniques, enforcement methods and education for improving safety are then examined in terms of behavioural analysis. The use of behavioural relationships in training is discussed. The internalisation of controls is recommended and measures used in industry outlined.
