Samenvatting

Today, more than 4,566 schools and communities in all corners of the United States are working to create opportunities for children to safely walk and bicycle to school. All this has occurred in just three years, through the creation of the Safe Routes to School Program. The Program is part of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Act, a Legacy for Users passed by the U.S. Congress in August 2005. States initiated their programs in January 2006. This document reports on the first three years of this Program, what communities are accomplishing, where the Program is today and where it can take this country in the future.
