This publication reports contributions to and discussions held at a European Conference of Ministers of Transport meeting covering: regional integration in the context of multilateral trade liberalisation; the effects on market structure of liberalising international trade in transport services; interaction of the liberalisation of trade in transport services and national competition policies; and demand for coordination of international transport infrastructure policies, international transport security and national logistics policies. It is considered that if time can be saved in transport operations, for example by increasing port efficiency, trade willincrease between the countries concerned. Inherent under-investment in infrastructure of international importance is highlighted, and a call for greater co-ordination of international transport policies is made.
