Samenvatting

Route control is a quantity control which aims at achieving routes an optimum distribution of traffic over alternative routes in the network by means of a control over the route selection decisions of drivers. This type of control can be implemented as a sub-system within an overall area traffic control system, e.g. by means of variable-direction road signing or in-vehicle routeing equipment. This paper describes a mathematical analysis of the route control problem with the objective of establishing the fundamental principles related to it.
