The measurement of stress and strain. Paper presented at the Symposium held in Amsterdam, September 1969, sponsored by the International Ergonomics Association.

At first as complete as possible a knowledge of the operational strain itself is needed when a task is performed in so called normal conditions. When other stress factors are added to the situation further investigation is required to answer the problem of interacting stresses in relation to the efficiency of man-machine systems.
