Samenvatting

Experimental measurement of normal walking were taken using male and female subjects. The mechanics of the knee joint were simplified and defined in mathematical terms. By considering the normal knee joint to function according to the mechanical principals thus defined, the forces transmitted by the joint were calculated from the experimental data. The general mechanical concepts of knee action are outlined and the assumptions made in defining the joint "model" described. The results obtained are presented and discussed in relation to the assumptions made.
