Samenvatting

The author outlines recent evidence of the presence of medicinal drugs among drivers involved in road accidents. A study is then described which assessed the level of knowledge on alcohol and driving impairment, and the relative impairment properties of various common medicinal drugs, among fourth year medical students in one of Canada's medical schools. With an average score of 40% it was concluded that students have a very limited knowledge of the effects of medicinal drugs and underestimated their potency.
