Samenvatting

This paper describes the development of the MELYSSA project, part of the European DRIVE 2 - ATT Programme, which tested a large number of telematics applications on a widespread European network of roads. The two major areas tested concerned integrated inter-urban traffic management and user information. Traffic management included information exchange between European traffic centres, incident detection, and traffic control in poor weather conditions. User information included pre-trip information, journey information through variable message signing, in-vehicle information and guidance systems, and information for fleet management. MELYSSA has been seen as a means of developing advanced systems because it enables European-wide testing and administration. For the future, further integration of applications can be investigated.
