In the sector of traffic and transport the ever increasing growth of the motoring has been an issue of major concern for years. The consequences of this growth are also noticeable in the Transport District of Groningen. More and more people think that the city of Groningen is becoming less accessible. Furthermore, the growing amount of traffic has a negative impact on the natural environment, as well as on living conditions and road safety. The aim of this investigation is to gain insight into the underlying motives and possible preconceived ideas and misperceptions motorists have in favour of the car and the expense of alternative means of transport. Insight in these matters could be used as a stepping-stone for more detailed policy arrangements to influence (future) modal choice behaviour in the Transport District of Groningen. (A)
