This report gives a summary overview of a study into several aspects of traffic safety on a stretch of highway 28 between Assen and Groningen. The reason for carrying out the study was the relatively high number of single vehicle accidents on a part of the highway. The study consisted of four parts : 1. an analysis of a large number of accidents; 2. analysis of road user behaviour on a number of sites, with the help of video observations; 3. analysis of driver behaviour in an instrumented vehicle; 4. a questionnaire study with frequent users of the highway. The results of each of the sub-studies are discussed. Finally a number of recommendations are given to the road authority.
