Samenvatting

This report describes a methodology of coding an accident typology onto bicycle crashes and discusses its limitations. The typology developed by Cross and Fisher in the USA was modified to suit Victorian conditions and trialled on 976 child cyclist crashes. In addition to the Cross and Fisher parameters, other factors possibly contributing to the crashes were also classified, as were the road hierarchy classes of the streets involved. The procedures formulated for this investigation provide a general methodology for examining bicycle crashes. This methodology will be of interest to those working in the field of bicycle accident analysis and countermeasure development at the technical level. (A)
