This presentation includes a set of some examples, how a computer simulation based on vehicle dynamics can be utilized in order to determine impacts and benefits of the ITS applications. The needed input data for the simulation are the technical characteristics of the vehicle and road as well as the driving technique. Because one of most important targets is to determine the fuel consumption and pollutant emissions, the core of the system is the availability of engine maps of fuel and emissions. The simulation determines quantitative values for different items (fuel, emissions, time etc.). By using monetary unit values for these quantities economic impacts can be estimated. Simulation procedures should be applied in the transportation sector in the same way as in the industrial sector, where in generalnew processes are not implemented before they are first simulated.
